Two Maui law makers are introducing separate gaming measures in the state legislature this session.

Rep. Mele Carroll of Maui introduced a gaming bill yesterday seeking authorization of the Hawaiian Homes Commission to allow gaming on Hawaiian home lands.

Under the measure, specific Hawaiian home land parcels would be designated for the establishment of gaming operations.

House Bill 2379 would also create a Hawaii gaming commission to regulate gaming operations.

A wagering tax on gross receipts would also provide funds for distribution to the general fund and the Hawaiian home lands trust fund.

A separate gaming measure is pending introduction by Rep. Joe Souki of Maui.

The Souki version seeks the award of a 20 year license for a single stand-alone casino in Waikiki, not to be located in a hotel.

House bill 2788 would also create a gaming fund and a compulsive gambler program.
