Maui Police Chief Gary Yabuta received high marks during an annual review conducted by the Maui Police Commission.

The evaluation included review of leadership in accreditation, community relations, budget and professionalism.

Of special note was Chief Yabuta’s oversight of the new Kihei police station process, and a robust recruiting and training program.

Chief Yabuta also wraps up the latest in a series of MPD Town Hall meetings with a final session set to take place at Helene Hall in Hana, on Monday, March 21, 2012 at 6 p.m.

Commission Chair Leil Koch said the commission is “very pleased” with the leadership of the chief and looks forward to the year ahead.

Lol.  A bunch of ex cops reviewing active cops.  What other result do you expect?  If you ask the countless victims of petty and violent crime on the island, he would get a failing grade.  Sorry, but, all is not well at MPD.

Do you know any of the commissioners?  Apparently not, because none of them are ex police officers.  Know your facts before opening your mouth.

Actually I do, and he is an ex cop. So suck it!

Are the victims of “petty and violent crime” the fault of MPD?  Why would he get a failing grade?

      • JSantos

Im pretty sure MPD would share your opinion as well, and is the root of the problem.  Do you see why?

        • Hawaiiansupaman

No.  Not sure what the problem is.  Please share your knowledge with us.
