An early morning fire destroyed a structure on the lu’au grounds of the Maui Lu Resort in South Maui today (Sunday, March 18, 2012).

Authorities say, when crews arrived on scene to the 575 South Kihei Road location, they found the 20 x 30 foot structure fully involved.

The first engine from Kihei arrived on scene at 2:41 a.m., and the fire was brought under control at 2:48 a.m.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the building was used as a dressing room.  The lu’au grounds are located on the south side of the property next to the Cavalry Chapel building.

According to the hotel website, the Polynesian Village Luau performs every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evening at the location.

Damages included an estimated $40,000 in losses to the structure, and $5,000 in damage in to the contents, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire is undetermined after an investigation. There were no injuries reported.
