Matson Decreasing Fuel Surcharge

As a result of recent declines in bunker fuel prices, Matson Navigation Company announced today that it is decreasing its fuel related surcharge by 3.5% for its Hawaii, Guam, Micronesia, and the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands.

Surcharges will decrease from 45.5% to 42% for its Hawaii service, and from 42% to 38.5% for its Guam/CNMI and Micronesia services, effective this Sunday, June 17, 2012.

“We are pleased to be able to make this downward adjustment to our fuel surcharge, which for most customers represents a reduction in shipping costs ranging from $80 to $140 per container,” said Dave Hoppes, the senior vice president, ocean services, in a written statement.

“Bunker fuel prices have moderated recently, allowing us to lower our fuel surcharge. Matson has made a practice of giving 30 days notice for upward rate adjustments, but passes on downward adjustments to our customers as soon as possible.”

Matson’s last adjustment to itsHawaii service fuel surcharge was an increase of 5%, effective February 26, 2012.
