$17,000 Fire at Maui Easter Seals Under Investigation

A fire that caused an estimated $17,000 in damage to equipment at the Easter Seals property in Kahului may have been intentionally set.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the fire has been classified as undetermined, but appeared to be intentional.

The incident was reported shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18 at the Maui Easter Seals property located at 155 Wakea Avenue.

When crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Engine-1 and Engine-10 arrived on scene, they found a tree chipping machine fully involved in fire, said Mainaga.

The fire was called under control at 4:10 p.m. and extinguished at 5:25 p.m.

The Maui Police Department continues to investigate the incident. No injuries were reported.
