BRIEF: Mākena Shark Sighting Results in Temporary Closure

Oneloa Beach, also known as “Big Beach” at Mākena State Park was closed for about two hours on Sunday, Aug. 25, due to a shark sighting.
Officials with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources say the closure began at 2:10 p.m., when lifeguards spotted a 12-15 foot shark in the area.

The area was reopened about two hours later.
