3 Days of High Temps Recorded in Kahului

Three consecutive days of high temperatures were recorded in Kahului on Maui between Saturday, Sept. 20 and Monday, Sept. 22.

Saturday’s 95 degree weather broke an old record set for the same day 18 years ago, according to the National Weather Service.  The agency reports that the 93 degree temperature on Sunday tied an old record set for the same day 37 years ago; and Monday’s 92 degree temperature tied an old record for the same day set in 1993.

High temperatures have also been documented in Hilo where record temperatures were recorded over four consecutive days between Sept. 17 and 20.  The 89 degree temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday tied records set for the same days in 1995.  Friday’s 90 degree temperature in Hilo broke an old record set for the same day in 1974; and Saturday’s 90 degree temperature tied an old record set for the same day in 1981, according to NWS data.

On Kauaʻi, the NWS says the temperature reached 88 degrees on Tuesday, Sept. 23, tying an old record set for the same day in 2003.

The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies, with a high near 90, and a heat index value as high as 95.

The agency also reports an increase in shower activity through the end of the work week as a “wet trade flow” brings scatter showers across portions of the state through the weekend.
