Mayor Michael Victorino celebrated the blessing and dedication ceremony Tuesday of the new $7.7 million Molokaʻi Baseyard in Hoʻolehua.

These are the dates of the services for former Maui County Council Chairman Danny Mateo, who died on Sept. 24, 2019, at the age of 68. He served as a County Council member for 12 years from 2002 through 2013, eight as Council Chair. He recently retired as County Clerk.

During his time with the Maui County Council, Mateo served for 10 consecutive years before reaching his term limit in 2012.

The Maui Office of the County Clerk has launched a website dedicated to information and announcements relating to the 2016 elections for Maui County.

The name of voided Maui mayoral candidate Neldon Mamuad will still appear on the primary election ballot, but votes for him will not be counted toward the end result.

Maui mayoral candidate Neldon Mamuad’s nomination papers are invalid according to a determination issued today by Maui County Clerk Danny Mateo.

The Maui County Council has announced the passage of a resolution in a 6-1 vote, authorizing the appointment of Danny Mateo as County Clerk.

According to Arakawa, his administration will hire both the exiting Council Chair Danny Mateo of Molokai, and the exiting Vice Chair Joe Pontanilla of Kahului.

More than 400 supporters and well-wishers gathered at the Makena Beach and Golf Resort to celebrate the career and accomplishments of US Senator Daniel K. Akaka.

Members stated that they were uncomfortable with the individuals’ limited knowledge of the island, involvement in the community, and experience.

With an estimated 25 sister city relationships already established on Maui, committee members debated the creation of yet another partnership overseas, this time with Goyang, South Korea.

The food drive was initiated by Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa and Council Chair Danny Mateo. It included a call to various departments to help collect food to feed the hungry on Maui.

Council Chair Danny Mateo said the State of the County Address presented by Mayor Arakawa, offered hope to the people of Maui.
