Maui Students Earn Top Honors in First Wind Scholar Program

Maui’s Rysen Otomo, of Wailuku, earned the top scholarship award issued by First Wind, a US-based renewable energy company that operates the Kaheawa Wind I & II project above Māʻalaea.

Beginning today, January 13, First Wind will begin transporting large wind turbines from the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kihei to Kaheawa Wind II, a wind farm located above Ma’alaea.

Three Maui senior high schools students were among 15 recipients of $3,000 college scholarships from First Wind, an independent U.S.-based wind energy company with a projects on Maui and Oahu.
