The Kupukupu ‘Āina spring internship program is geared toward students in grades 6 to 8, and is limited to 12 students selected through a competitive process.

The purpose of the event is to remove invasive fish from Maui’s reefs, including roi or peacock grouper, to‘au or blacktail snapper, and ta‘ape or blue-line snapper.

Haleakalā Interns Selected For Summer Programs

Nineteen Maui students were selected from two summer internship programs at Haleakalā National Park. The programs were created last year to encourage high school and college students to learn about the National Park Service and explore potential careers.

Spearfishing Challenge Helps With Invasive Species Control

A creative form of invasive species control pits man vs. fish in the upcoming Roi Round-up Spearfishing Tournament, happening November 6 in Lāhainā. Deadline to enter is Oct. 31.
