Hula advocates urge full support for Maui’s proposed Hālau of ʻOiwi Art
Many of the more than 50 people who testified during a budget committee meeting on Friday voiced support for funding of Hālau of ʻŌiwi Art, a center dedicated to the study, practice, celebration and perpetuation of hula and various ‘ōiwi arts connected to hula.

The program features Maui Kumu Hula Hōkūlani Holt of Pāʻū O Hiʻiaka and Nā Kumu Hula ʻĀlika and Kehani Guerrero of Kaniʻoikaʻohuleihiwa. They will share hula, ʻoli and moʻolelo. The program host is Alakaʻi Paleka.

Maui kumu hula, educator and cultural practitioner Hōkūlani Holt-Padilla was honored today with the Kamehameha Schools 2015 Native Hawaiian Community Educator of the Year award at the 14th annual Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement Convention.
