Episode 47 at Kīlauea marked by 9 hours of lava fountaining and 20,000 foot ash plume

Episode 47 of Kīlauea’s latest eruption began Thursday, with vibrant lava fountaining from the north vent of Halemaʻumaʻu Crater.

None, however, are expected at this time to directly move into or over the Hawaiian Islands. But there is some uncertainty in the forecast early next week because of the possibility of a tropical disturbance forming and passing just south of the state that could bring heavier showers depending on how close it gets.
