#XTERRA World Championship

Touted by race organizers as “the birthplace of off-road triathlon,” Maui was host to the first XTERRA race in 1996. The race featured just 123 participants and has since grown to include a sold-out field of 850 racers from 43 countries.

Ruzafa of Spain and Duffy of Bermuda each received $20,000 for their respective victories at the 19th annual event held over the weekend in Kapalua.

Famous pro surfer Sunny Garcia is adding off-road triathlete to bucket list, taking on the XTERRA Worlds in Kapalua on Maui this Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014.

First time was a charm for Spaniard Javier Gomez Noya, who won the 2012 XTERRA World Championship held Sunday at the Kapalua Resort.

Spectators can view the race along Fleming Beach and at the Transition Area/Finish Line, located on the poolside lawn at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. Event organizers say the first place athlete is expected to finish at approximately 11:30 a.m. Event parking is at the ball field behind the preschool at Kapalua.

Lance Armstrong doesn’t expect to win this weekend’s XTERRA World Championship race in Kapalua, but he’d be pleasantly surprised if he did.

The 2011 XTERRA World Championship makes a venue change this year, moving from the volcanic vistas of South Maui to the verdant terrain of the Kapalua Resort.

TS Restaurants has been selected as the new title sponsor for the XTERRA Kapalua Trail Runs being held October 22, in conjunction with the XTERRA World Championship on October 23.
