KAUNAKAKAI FIRE STATION GROUNDBREAKING TODAY

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety hold a ground breaking ceremony today for the new Fire Station planned in Kaunakakai.

BIODIESEL FIRE CLOSES CENTRAL MAUI LANDFILL

A biodiesel tanker fire at the Central Maui Landfill yesterday forced the closure of the facility for about 3 hours.  The fire was reported at 10:48 a.m. when Pacific Biodiesel reported a fire at a holding tank.  The company’s biodiesel production plant is located at the landfill site.  Fire engines from the Wailuku, Kula and Kahului fire stations responded along with the HAZMAT crew and 2 water tankers.  The landfill was re-opened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

HOUSE FIRE ON MOLOKAI CAUSES $140,000 IN DAMAGE

Fire fighters responded to a house fire on Molokai early Thursday morning (Apirl 30, 2009).  No one was injured, but the fire caused an estimated $140,000 in damage ($120,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents).  Three engines and one tanker responded to the fire that was reported at 12:27 a.m. at 130 Beach Place in Kaunakakai.  Authorities say the 1200 square foot residence was in the process of being renovated, and no one was at home at the time of the fire.  The cause of the fire is undetermined and is pending further investigation.
