The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of Maui in Maui County until 5:45 p.m.

At 2:43 p.m., radar showed persistent moderate to heavy rain over the windward slopes of the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala.  Stream Gages also show rises in water levels as the rain has been falling for several hours already.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to Waihee, Kahakuloa, Huelo, Keanae, Nahiku, Hana and Kipahulu.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

  • Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.  Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor breaking action.
  • Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
