HALEAKALA TO BEGIN WORK ON SEPTIC SYSTEM
Haleakala National Park will begin work on the septic system in the Headquarters Visitor Center at the 7000′ elevation. The project will replace an old system that is beginning to fail. Work begins on Monday September 14, 2009 and will last about two weeks. Park officials say there should be minimum impacts to the visitor experience, with the majority of the work to be conducted away from public areas. The visitor center will remain open and parking will not be affected. The bathrooms at the Headquarters Visitor Center will be closed during this time period. The park will bring in porta-potties to help reduce any inconvenience to the public.
