LAHAINA WOMAN SUFFERS FATAL INJURIES IN MAALAEA CRASH
A Lahaina woman suffered fatal injuries in a traffic accident last night (Sunday, September 13, 2009) on North Kihei Road. The woman has since been identified as 24-year-old Elitisi Tuivailala of Lahaina.

According to police reports, the car Tuivailala was in was headed east on North Kihei Road when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The crash occurred at 10:26 p.m. about a mile east of the Honoapiilani Highway intersection in Maalaea.
Another occupant of the vehicle remained in critical condition at last report, and the 33-year-old Lahaina man driving the other car was transported to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu for treatment.
Alcohol has been determined to be a factor in the crash. The involvement of other factors has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.
The death was the 13th traffic fatality in Maui County in 2009 and the second fatality in September.
