WAILEA HOME FIRE DAMAGES ESTIMATED AT $6 MILLION

The damages from a home fire in Kihei over the weekend are estimated to be in the $6 million range.

Batallion Chief Jeff Schaffer with the Maui Fire Department said the fire caused extensive damage to the 2-story dwelling, but the cause remained under investigation.

The multimillion dollar structure had a total 6,000 square feet of space and was located at 3060 South Kihei Road at the Keawekapu border marking the start of Wailea.

Seven engine companies responded to the blaze that was first reported at 9:30 Saturday, October 3, 2009.

The fire was under control at 5:16 Sunday morning, October 4, and extinguished at 1:17 p.m. that afternoon.
