Manele Slated for New Ferry Loading Dock
The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) invites the public to attend an information meeting at 5 p.m., on Tuesday February 23, 2010 to discuss the planning document and environmental assessment that will be prepared for the ferry loading dock improvements at the Manele small boat harbor on Lana‘i.
The meeting will be held at the Lana‘i Senior Center, 309 7th Street, Lana‘i City.
“Manele small boat harbor has for many years been an important hub of activity for the Lana‘i community. We want to keep island residents informed about the improvements we’ll be making to this facility,” said Laura Thielen, DLNR chairperson.
The proposed improvements consist of constructing a new ferry loading dock, ADA improvements, sewage pump out station and dredging of the harbor.
The planning document and environmental assessment will be prepared under the direction of Bow Engineering and Development. The project is expected to take one year to complete at a cost of $475,000 ($380,000 in Federal funding and $95,000 in State funding).
