A final Environmental Impact statement was accepted for the proposed Waiale Water Treatment Facility in Wailuku.  The system is designed to process surface water from the Hopoi Chute and is anticipated to yield approximately 9 million gallons of water per day.  The treated water would be conveyed to the County of Maui for its Central Maui water system.  The project is proposed by A&B Properties in collaboration with the County of Maui Department of Water Supply.

The plant is proposed for development on land adjacent to the Waiale Reservoirs in Wailuku, in the vicinity of the Maui Community Correctional Center on land owned by Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.

The planned facility includes a metal control building, desilting basins, chlorine storage building, and related treatment works and utilities improvements. Access to the WTF will be via a new driveway from either Kuikahi Drive extension or Waiinu Road.
