MPD Celebrates Police Week May 10-14
The Maui Police Department celebrates National Police Week from May 10 through May 14, 2010. A ceremony honoring five officers and one U.S. National Park Ranger killed in the line of duty will be held at the Wailuku Police Station on Monday morning.
The five officers who will be honored are Officer Harry Fung (November 19, 1941), Officer Frank A.F. Kong (July 11, 1952), Sergeant William F. Roback, Sr. (April 13, 1958), Officer Gene V. Williams (August 9, 1999), and Officer Cerilo Agarano, Jr. (November 9, 1999). The U.S. National Park Ranger to be honored is Park Ranger Suzanne Roberts (September 14, 2004).
Mayor Charmaine Tavares will issue a Proclamation for the day’s event. Also on hand will be Police Chaplain Gary Colton, who will deliver a Memorial Address, Police Chaplain Milton Fricke who will do the Benediction, and The Isle of Maui Pipe Band with music played by Officer Denis Cabacungan. The emcees are Officer Kehau Dods and Officer Christopher Schmitt, the Coordinator for Police Week.
During the week, tours of the Wailuku Police Station will be given to students from the various schools. Festivities for Police Week wrap up on Friday May 14, 2010, with an event at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center from 3 to 9 p.m. featuring police displays and appearances by McGruff the Crime Dog and Daren the D.A.R.E. Lion.
