Attempted murder investigation launched following Molokai knife attack
Maui Police have launched an attempted murder investigation following a reported knife attack on Saturday in the Kawela Barns area of Molokai. The incident was reported at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
Responding officers found an adult female with multiple abrasions and lacerations to her face and forearms. Police say the injuries were the result of being punched several times and sliced with a knife.
According to police reports, another female also sustained lacerations to her hands while reportedly trying to intervene. Both women were transported to Molokai General Hospital. The primary victim was treated for life threatening injuries, while the second victim was treated and released.
Patrol officers later arrested 52-year-old John Henry Sardinha at his Hoolehua home after authorities say he fled the scene. Sardinha, who was identified as the victim’s boyfriend, was charged with Attempted Murder II, Assault II, and Abuse of a Household Family Member. His bail was set at $52,000.
