Three hospitalized following single car crash near Waiko Rd

One person is in critical condition and two others are in serious condition following an early morning accident on Maui today (Saturday, July 3, 2010). The single-car accident was reported at 2:04 a.m. on the Honoapiilani Highway between Kuikahi Drive and Waiko Road.

According to police reports, a 2005 Infinity G35 sedan, operated by a 26-year-old Kihei woman, was headed north on the highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car hit a dirt embankment and overturned, causing one passenger to be ejected. The 39-year-old man from Haiku remains at Maui Memorial Medical Center where he is being treated for critical injuries.

The driver and a 25-year-old Haiku man who was also a passenger, were being treated for serious injuries at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The police department’s Vehicle Homicide Unit and DUI Task Force responded to the scene. The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
