Blaine Kobayashi was sworn in yesterday as Maui’s newest District Court Judge for the Second Circuit court encompassing Maui, Molokai and Lanai.  Kobayashi fills the vacancy created by the expiration of the term of Judge Simone Polak.

Prior to his judicial appointment, Kobayashi served as a partner with the Carlsmith Ball law firm, representing individual and corporate clients in matters involving land use, litigation and administrative law.  He previously served as a Deputy Corporation Counsel on Maui, as well as Deputy County Attorney and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney on Kauai.  Kobayashi received his law degree from the University of Oregon Law School in 1991.

He was appointed to the post by Chief Justice Ronald T. Y. Moon from a list of six nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission.
