First there was Shakespeare. (Wherefore art thou, poetry?).

Then there were … other bloomer-bearing poets who didn’t hold a candle.

Fast forward a few centuries and you’ll find yourself smack dab in the middle of modern day soliloquies, right in your backyard.

You may not know it, but chances are a brilliant poet walked past you on the street today. (Chances are, you are one!)

If you’re feeling the fire within you to express yourself, or if you’d just like to witness as your fellow human being shines and radiates their creativity, come on down to Cassanova’s in Makawao on December 2nd, to participate in some Poetry Slam shenanigans. Normally, the Slam Poetry event is held on the last Thursday of the month, but this month it will nudge its way across the month-to-month boundary.

Yours truly will be there spitting some verses, sonnet style. Come join the fun!

There is prize money to be had, as well as a rocking good time witnessing your peers and neighbors bearing their hearts and souls in iambic pentameter, freeform verse (and then some!).

The night will feature a lineup of local poets, spoken word artists, and emcees. If you have an original piece that is three minutes or less, you can come and share, and compete for the $100 cash prize.

Expect live art, theatrical performances, visual projections, music and dancing.

The event starts at 9:30, but the restaurant’s doors are open from 11 AM – 9 PM, serving authentic Italian cuisine, (specializing in wood fired pizza).

Entry is $5 at the door for ages 21 and up. Come early and make sure you’re on the list to perform, if you so desire!
