Maui lawmakers, State Representative Angus McKelvey and State Senator Roz Baker, will hold a community meeting this Thursday in West Maui.  The meeting is intended to get ideas, priorities and other feedback from Lahaina residents for the 2011 legislative session.  Baker and McKelvey will also provide an update on projects in the West Maui and Maalaea areas.

“While the legislative session actually starts in January, we want to have this dialogue with the community now as this is the time that we are drafting bills and formulating budget strategies for the next session,” said McKelvey.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 at the West Maui Kaunoa Senior Center. Light refreshments and snacks will be served. The event will also offer materials and information on how to follow the legislative process, submit testimony, and track bills using the State’s Capitol.gov web portal.

“The states’ fiscal outlook and proposed budget ideas for balancing the budget in the new biennium will also be discussed,” said McKelvey.

“We hope people can take time out of their busy holiday schedule to come and share their mana‘o with us so we can continue to work together this next session and build a brighter future for Lahaina and all of Hawaii,” said Senator Roz Baker.
