Power outages reported in Wailuku and Waiehu last night were likely caused by an accumulation of moisture on electrical equipment.

Officials with Maui Electric Company say an estimated 4,300 customers experienced power loss when a flash over occurred at the company’s Wailuku substation.

The outage was first reported at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2011. Power was restored at 6:50 p.m. to a majority of customers.  Remaining customers were brought back online approximately three hours later.

Officials at MECO apologized for any inconvenience the power loss may have posed to customers.
