Journalist Shawn Ching makes his return to Hawaii Television

Veteran Hawaii journalist Shawn Ching returns to television news this month as an anchor-reporter on Hawaii News Now.  In addition to reporting duties, Ching will join anchor Stephanie Lum at the desk weekdays at 5 p.m.

Ching comes off of a three year break from on-air work after leaving Hawaii’s ABC affiliate in 2008.  Ching’s broadcast career spans two decades and includes 13 years with KITV.

In addition to his broadcast experience, Ching has also worked as an attorney for Kobayashi, Sugita & Gota specializing in commercial and construction litigation, and prior to that for King, Nakamura & Chun-Hoon specializing in labor and employment law, personal injury and commercial litigation.

Ching earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law in 2003. He also holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Political Science from  UH Manoa.

While at the University of Hawaii, Ching was a offensive lineman on the UH football team.  He was later able to hone his skills off the field into in-dept analysis and color commentary for both Prep and UH football games.

He currently serves as a member of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Foundation Board, St. Francis School Board and the University of Hawaii Athletic Advisory Board.
