High Surf Advisory until 6 p.m. 2/9/11
Maui and Molokai are under a High Surf ADVISORY until 6 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued the advisory for the North and West facing shores of Molokai and the North facing shores of Maui.
Surf is expected to be in the 10 to 15 foot range along the affected north shores, and 8 to 12 feet along the west shores of Molokai. Surf heights are the height of the face of the front of the waves. The swell will gradually decline as the day progresses.
Forecasters say a high tide of approximately 1.5 feet is expected between 7:24 and 8:42 p.m. The next high tide of approximately 1.6 feet is expected between 4:29 and 5:47 a.m. tomorrow.
Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break until the advisory has expired. Advisory level surf can cause localized beach erosion, strong rip currents, and hazardous wave action.
