A report issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today ranked Hawaiian Airlines as the nation’s number one airline for on-time performance for the 7th consecutive year.

According to the Air Travel Consumer Report, Hawaiian arrived as scheduled an average of 92.5 percent for 2010 and led all carriers nationally in on-time performance in each month. In December, 87.6 percent of Hawaiian’s flights arrived on time. The DOT report covers 18 airlines, including eight carriers providing service to Hawaii.

Hawaiian also had the airline industry’s best overall score for fewest cancelled flights in 2010, ranking first in 10 of the 12 months as recorded in DOT’s monthly reports. Hawaiian had 55 flight cancellations out of 67,649 total flights during 2010, an average of approximately 0.1 percent for the year. In December, Hawaiian achieved the industry’s top ranking with nine cancellations out of 5,578 total flights, or approximately 0.2 percent.

Hawaiian is the nation’s highest-ranked carrier for service quality and performance in the 20th annual Airline Quality Rating study, having earned that distinction in three of the past four years. Hawaiian has also led all U.S. carriers in on-time performance for each of the past seven years (2004-2010) as reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Consumer surveys by Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure and Zagat have all ranked Hawaiian the top domestic airline offering flights to Hawaii.
