Legacy of Liszt 200th Birthday Concert

The music and mysticism of legendary pianist Franz Liszt comes to life in a special performance this weekend at the MACC.

American pianist, Thomas Purviance presents the afternoon performance on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Studio Theater of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

The performance pays tribute to the 200th Birthday of Liszt.  During the 19th century, Liszt was recognized as a charismatic virtuoso in the classical music world.

The program will include the such compositions as the Hungarian Rhapsody No.12, Liebestraume, Valle d’Obermann, and more.  Purviance will also present anecdotes and discussion about Liszt’s life.

Tickets are $22 for adults, and $11 for children, plus applicable fees.  The concert is a MACC fundraiser.  Tickets can be purchase in person at the MACC Box Office, by phone at (808) 242-SHOW (7469), or online at mauiarts.org.

Pre-show dining will be offered, catered by BA-LE French Sandwich & Bakery from 3:30 pm in McCoy Courtyard.
