Seabury Hall Gets Crafty With their 38th Annual Fair
By Kristin Hashimoto
It’s that time of year when folks are abuzz with talk of the annual Seabury Hall Craft Fair. This private school in Makawao has a reputation for academic excellence and tight-knit community, alumni, and parental support. Once a year on May 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the school turns into a fairground full of food, crafts, art, activities, and local business vendors.
Over one hundred crafters and local businesses turn out for this event and sprawl across Seabury’s picturesque school grounds. Jewelry, ceramics, glass, fashion, home design/décor, art, antiques, body care, candles, plants, cards, and other accessories will be available.
In addition to browsing through the plethora of products from vendors’ onsite, people will be able to browse and bid in a silent and live auction taking place that day. At 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. a quiet bidding war will take place. To the victor, go the spoils.
A preview for the items available at the live auction will begin at 12:30 p.m. Potential bidders will have one hour to scout out what they most desire, and play it cool, until 2:00 p.m. The Cooper House living room will be the stage for this all out battle for travel, art, antiques, and other miscellaneous items and services.
With approximately 207 total packages up for auction, everyone will be able to find something that garners their interest and possibly pocketbooks. Items range from hotel stays, massages/bodywork, artwork, wood pieces, gift certificates for fashion and food, jewelry, pet (vet) services, spa treatments, dinner cruise, photography and dance sessions, and so much more.
Visit www.seaburyhall.org, for a complete listing of businesses and crafts available at the craft fair. Also, take a sneak peek at the items up for auction online. The school is still accepting donations for their auctions. See their website for more details and donation form.
Proceeds from this event will go directly into the tuition assistance program at Seabury Hall. Over one-third of their student population receives some form of financial assistance. For many families, this aid is a necessity, as without it, their child could not afford a Seabury education. Tuition, including lunch, is $16,990 for the 2011-2012 academic school year. This amount does not include the cost for books, uniforms, transportation, and other supplies.
Seabury Hall is located at 480 Olinda Road in Makawao. Browse around and maybe pick up that last minute Mother’s Day gift on May 7.
