Maui Attorney Craig Nakamura Confirmed to HTA Board
By Wendy Osher
The Hawaii Tourism Authority welcomed its newest board member, Craig G. Nakamura, a Maui attorney practicing with Carlsmith Ball LLP.
Nakamura was confirmed as the HTA Maui Representative by the Hawaii State Senate last week. He replaces Kyoko Kimura, managing director of Hotel Wailea, who has served on the HTA board since 2008.
Nakamura was born and raised in Hawaii, and spent the past 25 years on Maui. He is a practicing attorney on Maui, and previously practiced law in Los Angeles and Honolulu. He currently serves on the board of Kapalua Maui Charities, Wailuku Heights Community Association, and other community organizations.
“Born and raised in Hawai’i and having spent the past 25 years on Maui, he understands the importance of Hawai’i as a tourism economy and will bring his expertise, experiences and perspective to the HTA,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the HTA.
As part of the HTA board, Nakamura will be part of the body that is responsible for strategically managing tourism to optimize benefits for Hawaii. Established in 1998, the Hawai’i Tourism Authority works to ensure sustainability of Hawaii’s tourism industry, which is the leading economic driver and employer in the state.
