Maui Gay Pride Weekend of Events
By Kristin Hashimoto
From May 31 to June 5, the non-profit organization Both Sides Now, (BSN) has created a special weekend full of activities from day to night for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered population on Maui.
On Tuesday May 31, Ambrosia’s lounge in the triangle in Kihei will begin the week with “Dirty House Tuesdays” as DJ LaRage spins tracks and keeps patrons moving to a house music vibe. This is a non-BSN coordinated activity.
Thursday June 2, have friends gather at Flatbread in Pa’ia for a pride dinner and fundraising party beginning at 6:00 p.m. Get to bed early and rest up on Friday for the morning hike on Saturday June 4, with Wade Holmes of No Ka Oi Adventures. Holmes will take participants through Waihe’e Valley trail from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Have lunch with the hiking gang in Wailuku, or head home to get pretty for the Rainbow Pride dance at Lulu’s in Kihei. The doors open at 9:00 p.m., and the drag show begins at 10:00 p.m. Then from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. burn off cocktail and dinner calories with some major moves on the dance floor.
The weekend winds down on Sunday June 5, with brunch at Betty’s Beach Café in Lahaina from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sip on $2 mimosas and enjoy a special “PRIDE” menu. Also on Sunday, another non-BSN event will occur in Wailea at Makena’s Little Beach from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
