Maui Reliever Texeira Claimed by Yankees
By Fred Guzman
Designated for assignment last week, Kanekoa Texeira has found a new minor-league home. The right-hander from Kula has claimed on waivers by the New York Yankees and shipped to the team’s Triple-A farm team in Scranton, Penn.
Texeira started this season on Kansas City’s roster, but the reliever was demoted last month to the club’s Triple-A farm team in Omaha and subsequently placed on the waiver wire. In Omaha, Texeira went 0-1, posed a save and had an ERA of 5.23 in eight appearances.
Texeira previously was a member of the Yankees’ farm system, pitching well for Double-A Trenton, before he was claimed by Seattle in the Rule 5 draft. He later was claimed on waivers by Kansas City.
Texeira has appeared in 49 big-league games, compiling a 1-1 record with a 4.66 ERA.
