Central Maui residents can expect increased air traffic during temporary runway closures over the next two and a half weeks at Kahului Airport.

The airfield maintenance work will take place on Tuesday, June 21st through Monday, July 4, 2011 during the early morning hours between midnight and 5 a.m. The work on Runway 2/20 is being done in the early morning hours to minimize disruption to airport services.

During this time, the flight patterns for arriving and departing flights will be modified. Officials with the state Department of Transportation say the work schedule will result in an increase in air traffic over Wailuku and Kahului.
