Watch Coral Spawn at the Maui Ocean Center
Watch in awe as rice coral is expected to spawn under moonlight on August 2, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Maui Ocean Center. While coral reef continues to be decimated worldwide, the Maui Ocean Center strives to educate and promote awareness of ocean habitats and its inhabitants.
Coral expert Pauline Fiene and naturalists from the Maui Ocean Center will provide guests with educational presentations on coral spawning. Underwater video footage of past year’s coral spawning will be shown. Naturalists will be available throughout the evening to answer questions and explain this amazing sight.
Guests will also enjoy complimentary coffee and desserts while waiting to witness rice coral reproducing. Admission is $27.00 for adults and $22.00 for children aged 3 to 12 years of age. If you have a Hawai’i Driver’s License or other Hawai’i State identification, be sure to take advantage of the center’s Kama’aina discounts. This event has limited spaces available. Reservations are required.
While rice coral is expected to spawn, there is no guarantee that nature will coincide with a very human timetable, on August 2nd. However, the Maui Ocean Center makes the wait for the possible spawning fun as you peruse the ocean exhibits under moonlight, watch past footage of coral spawning, listen to experts present their knowledge of the reef, and sip and sample some coffee and desserts.
