The County of Maui Parks & Recreation Department announced today that it will close Tennis Courts 1 & 2 at the Kahului Community Center from now until November 2011 for complete reconstruction.

The two oldest courts, Tennis Courts 1 & 2, will be replaced with green acrylic play court surfaces, with asphalt and concrete underneath. The lights will not be replaced nor removed as they are still in working order.

“Originally, there were only two courts at this facility, and then two new courts were added several years ago. Now, we are completely removing and replacing the two oldest courts,” said Robert Halvorson, Chief of Planning and Development.

Courts 3 & 4 will remain open for use through most of the construction period.
