Preview: Bears Host Warriors; Na Alii Visit Sabers
By Fred Guzman
Football shifts into full swing this weekend with the NFL, after having provided us with a tasty pupu on Thursday night, completing its opening slate of games on Sunday followed by a double-header on Monday.
Before then, there are several games that are likely to attract much attention from local fans.
In MIL action, Baldwin underscored its status as the favorite to capture another Division-I league title last week by routing Lahainaluna 40-0.
Tonight, the 10th-ranked Bears will tangle with Kamehameha-Maui in a 7 o’clock game gainst at War Memorial Stadium.
The Warriors are 1-1 coming into the game, having lost in double-overtime against Maui High and followed that up by pulling away for a win over King Kekaulike last week.
On Saturday night, Maui High will host Kekaulike at War Memorial Stadium. The Sabers will try to post their second straight win after having snapped a 15-game MIL losing streak two weeks against Kamehameha. It’s been a decade since Maui High last opened the MIL season with a 2-0 record.
Both MIL games will be aired on ESPN 550.
On Saturday, the University of Hawaii will seek to follow up on an impressive opening win over Colorado by paying a visit to another team from the Pac-12 – the Washington Huskies. That game is set for a 9:30 a.m., Hawaii time and will also be aired on ESPN 550.
