‘CAKE’ To Play The MACC

CAKE, a popular American alternative rock band, is coming to Maui on Saturday, February 25 to perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater at 7:30 p.m.

They will be one of the biggest alt rock acts to play on Maui this year, and turnout is expected to be large.

CAKE originated in Sacramento, California’s state capitol, in the early ’90s and has since recorded five hit albums, each stylistically unique.

Band members consist of: lead singer John McCrea, trumpet player Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Gabe Nelson and drummer Paulo Baldi. The band collectively formed their own label in 2007, Upbeat Records.

The band falls under the genre of alternative rock because they are constantly alternating and testing the bounds of individual styles, going through each like a fat kid eating cake. CAKE has successfully blended and incorporated a range of musical styles including country, rock, funk, mariachi, Iranian folk, and hip-hop.

Some of CAKE’s hit singles include “The Distance,” “You Turn The Screws,” and of course their attractively twisted cover of “I Will Survive” originally performed by Gloria Gaynor.

It will be beneficial  for Maui residents to experience CAKE’s upbeat performance style and evolving sound. Really though, who can resist CAKE?

IMPORTANT: BAMP Project announced that the CAKE has been re-scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. All current ticket holders have the option of keeping their seats and the concert will be at the same time in the Castle Theater.
