Filipino-American Heritage Festival at Maui Mall
The Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce presents a Filipino-American Heritage Festival on October 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maui Mall in Kahului. This free event will mark the month of October as Filipino American History month.
Filipino food, dance, crafts, music, attire and history will stretch throughout Maui Mall. The day is filled with activities, competition and giveaways. Some of the prizes include round trip airfare to the Philippines and Las Vegas. Just wear your best Filipino attire and enter the best-dressed contest for a chance to win a trip to Vegas. Three round trip tickets to the Philippines will be given away in drawings held throughout the day.
There will be food booths from some of Maui’s Filipino restaurants such as: Four Sisters Kitchen, Home Maid Bakery, Paradise Supermart, TJ’s Food Mart, Randy’s Catering and Fast Food, and more. Foods such as: lumpia, pansit, adobo, and a variety of desserts will be available for purchase.
There will even be a balut-eating contest. For those who are new to balut, this cultural delicacy is a fertilized egg embryo that is boiled alive and eaten. A cook-off will also take place and include Filipino Chefs from Maui’s restaurants such as: Star Noodle, Grand Wailea, and Tommy Bahama.
