Molokai Brush Fire Burns 20 Acres in Kaluakoi

Crews from the Maui Fire Department battled brush fire in the Kaluakoi area of Molokai on Friday evening.

The blaze was first reported at 6:33 p.m. near Kaluakoi Road and Hauakea Avenue.

The fire had burned an estimated 15 to 20 acres of brush before it was contained at 8:25 p.m.

Crews remained on scene into the night to extinguish hot spots within the perimeter and cut fire breaks with dozers around the burn area.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said 17 personnel were on the scene including crews from Engine 4, Tanker 4, Engine 9. Relief Engine 4, Wildland 4, Engine 12, two County tankers, and a county dozer.

No structures threatened, and no injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
