Waterline Project to Impact Lahaina Customers Tonight
By Wendy Osher
A capital improvement project designed to improve fire protection in West Maui is expected to impact water customers for about 9 hours in the work area.
Contractors will begin work on the waterline at Kame’eu’i Place off of Lower Honoapiilani Road at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.
Work will resume through 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 10.
During this time, residents on Kame’eu’i Place and at Honokowai Plantation Inn will have no water. Customers will have very low water pressure at the following locations:
- Mahana at Kaanapali
- Papakea Resort
- Honokowai Villa
- Kaanapali Shores
- Maui Kai Condominium
- Honua Kai
- Honokowai Marketplace
- Maui Sands
Lower Honoapiilani Road in this vicinity will be reduced to a single lane of traffic, with both lanes to be closed for short periods.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution and follow traffic control, or use another route. Water officials say the road will be repaved at a later date.
Affected customers have been notified by the contractor and are advised to store water for the night if needed.
Water officials say customers may notice an increase in water pressure after the new line is tied into the system.
Customers can call the 24-hour service line (270-7633) if a water problem occurs.
