December registration.

Motorists on Maui will owe more than what is shown on their December 2011 vehicle registration renewal notice.  The mistake is being attributed to a computer programming error.

County officials say the incorrect notices were mailed out on November 18th.  The corrected notices will be issued with the words “Corrected Motor Vehicle Renewal” appearing above the mailing address.

The incorrect notices do not include the current increase in State of Hawaii weight tax and registration fees, county officials said today in a press release.

Officials with the City and County of Honolulu, who send out the state renewal notices, have assured fellow county governments that the programming error has been resolved.

Residents are asked to wait for the corrected notice to arrive if they plan to mail in their renewal payment. Mailed in renewals received with the incorrect payment amount will be returned, according to county officials.

Those wishing to renew prior to receiving their corrected renewal notice may do so in person at any Motor Vehicle and Licensing office or online at www.mauicounty.gov/mvrrenewal.
