Bicyclist Critically Injured Below Ulupalakua Ranch

A Maui bicyclist was critically injured in a morning accident below Ulupalakua Ranch this morning.

The accident was reported at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 along the highway, and downhill from the ranch.

The bicyclist, described as an elderly male, struck a guardrail and fell about 10 feet down a ditch, according to accident reports.

Authorities with the Maui County Paramedics Association say man was medivaced to Maui Memorial Medical Center with chest injuries and multiple traumatic injuries to his extremities.

Officials say the individual was a recreational bicyclist and not involved in a downhill tour.
