A High Surf Warning is in effect for the north facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service say a very large northwest swell will build today, peaking tonight at 20 to 25 feet.
Agency officials say dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline, and advise beach goers to stay out of the water because of the deadly rip currents, and hazardous wave action.
The next high tide of approximately 1.6 feet is expected between 10:36 and 11:54 p.m.
