[flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdtLGMpF7iA /] Maui police remained on the scene of an ongoing criminal investigation at Nakalele point on Maui this afternoon.

The sleepy town, located just past Honokohau, became the center of a crime scene that started with an initial report of a domestic dispute.

Maui police responded to the scene, near mile marker 37 of the Kahekili Highway, shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011.

During their investigation, police recovered the body of an unknown, unresponsive female.

Upon arrival on scene and attempting to contact a male observed in the area, authorities say the individual fled and jumped off a cliff and into the ocean.

Lt. Wayne Ibarra with the Maui Police Department said police airlifted the male individual by helicopter at first light this morning from the rock point at Nakalele.  He reportedly sustained possible non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
