Maui Hospital Gets New Physical Therapy Equipment

A $15,000 donation was used to purchase physical and occupational therapy equipment on Maui.

The funds were provided by the Maui Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary to the hospital’s Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy departments.

“We are delighted to help the hospital with this new equipment which directly improves care and the overall experience for the rehabilitation patient,” said MMMC Auxiliary President Amy Hanlon in a statement.

The donation was used to purchase a Vectra Genisys ultrasound and electrical stimulation combo unit, as well as two new Hi-Lo exercise tables.

MMMC Rehabilitation Services Director, Tereza Jurásek said the ultrasound and electrical stimulation will provide more options for therapists when they treat patients.

“These modalities help with pain and edema management, spasm and stiffness control, and facilitating motor responses while targeting soft tissue of specific area of the body,” she said.

The exercise tables are designed to provide a comfortable option to patients, and allow therapists to provide better care, with less strain to themselves.

The equipment will be used for both in- and out-patient clients, as well as those enrolled in the Cardiac Outpatient Program.

“Each year we look for opportunities to give to the hospital in a variety of ways including new equipment, scholarships and volunteering approximately 10,000 hours or our time annually,” said Hanlon.

The MMMC Rehabilitation department treats patients with a wide range of issues including neurological, orthopedic, and traumatic origin.
