Three people were rescued from waters off of Sugar Cove in Paia after the watercraft they were in overturned on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Maui fire crews spotted the vessel about 1/3 of a mile from shore.

Authorities say rescue personnel utilized Jet Skis to assist two of the individuals to shore where they were assessed by fire department personnel.

According to the incident report, the captain of the Hobie Cat brand vessel drifted downwind and was brought to shore at a location off of Stable Road by personnel aboard Jet Skis.

The incident was reported at 2:40 p.m., and all individuals were safely on shore by 3:40 p.m.
