Raising the Bar: Maui Powerhouse Gym Grand Opening

A celebration was held over the weekend for the all new Maui Powerhouse Gym at the Azeka Plaza shopping center in Kihei.

The March 31 event came following a soft opening on December 17, 2012 when the new owners reopened the gym following a bankruptcy filing by previous owners at the same location.

In three short months since opening, the gym has been renovated, and brand new, state of the art cardio machines and strength machines have been added.

Co-owner Max Tsai said services have been extended to include massage, a nutrition bar, and an improved pro shop.   There’s also personal training; group classes such as spin, Zumba, pilates, and yoga; and plans for kickboxing classes are in the works.

“We’re the most well-equipped gym on Maui right now with 21 pieces of brand new cardio equipment,” said Tsai.  Other equipment includes an extensive array of selectorized machines, the FTS Glide, super squat machines, and the one-of-a-kind Adaptive Motion Trainer cardio machine.

Tsai said the Maui Powerhouse Gym is a good fit for all age groups and fitness levels.  Co-owner Wayne Barry noted that the gym was selected by the American Specialty Health (ASH) Networks to offer both the Silver & Fit program targeting the senior population, as well as the Active & Fit program with future plans focusing on keiki.

“Maui Powerhouse Gym is a unique place where the entire family can make fitness and wellness a lifestyle,” said Tsai.

Fellow owner, Cathy Barry said she believes the gym will interface well with the “active lifestyle that all of the community, members, and visitors have.”

“We value our health and we value helping others to get themselves motivated to change their lives,” said Barry.
